Class 1 Letter Term 2 2018-2019

2nd November 2018
Dear Parents and Carers of Class 1,
Welcome back! I hope you had a good half term and enjoyed all the Autumn sunshine we had. We are back ready for another busy term ahead which will of course include our nativity in December! A big thank you for all the support you have given with reading and homework so far. Please remember to pop a date and signature when you have read with your child in their reading record book. It was also lovely to see so many of you after school on the last Thursday of term when the children could show off all their amazing learning and our classroom!
We will begin by reading, performing and writing Autumn poems. We will then continue with our sentence building and story writing using the book Owl Babies. We will be using role play and story maps to help us tell stories.
We will be looking at books independently, with our buddies and other adults, individually or in small groups.
We will also be having daily Phonics sessions to work on our sounds as well as ‘Write Dance’ and Handwriting sessions which help us to work on gross and fine motor skills.

We will continue to ensure that the children are familiar with reading, writing and ordering numbers from 0-20. We will develop practical strategies for adding and taking away as well recording the number sentences. We will be learning our number bonds for numbers up to 10. We will also be exploring 2D and 3D shapes.
Seasons – over the course of the year we will be looking at the different seasons and how our environment changes. This has begun with Autumn and will continue with Winter. We will be asking questions and completing simple investigations.
We are looking at how Christians celebrate Christmas including the Christmas story, Christmas traditions and signs that Christmas is on its way!
PE: (Monday)
This term is gymnastics. We will learn how to create and perform simple sequences and use large pieces of apparatus confidently and safely.
With Mrs Whiting we will be working on accessing programs ourselves and becoming more independent in using a variety of ICT equipment. We are also practicing our typing and use of the keyboard.
Forest school:
Some parents have been asking about Forest school. Our turn is after Christmas (a letter will be sent out)
however we do still use the Forest School area for certain Topic and Science activities. If the children ever need different clothing I will write to let you know.
Would you like to meet myteddy bear?
We will be talking about what teddy bears look like now and what they looked like ‘a long time ago’. We will explore what they are made of and look for key features. We will also be interviewing people about their teddies and sharing our own!
We are still going out and about! Where possible we like to be able to make the most of the school setting by using the local environment and places of interest. We cannot do this without a team of adult helpers! If you might be able join us for an Autumn walk/ visit to the Cathedral then please could you let me know and I can give you some further dates or information.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to come and see me, either before or after school. Thank you again for all your support.
Mrs Beard
