Class 3 Letter Term 1 2018-2019

Dear Parents, Carers and Pupils of Class 3

I hope you all had a restful and peaceful Summer break and are ready for an exciting and busy year ahead. I had a lovely holiday with my wife in Antiqua - snorkelling, reading and drinking lots of rum punch!

I will be teaching the class all week except for a Wednesday, when Mrs Wilson will be teaching. Miss Bates, Miss Samad (morning) and Mr Brogan (afternoon) will also be working with us in class.

Term 1 curriculum content

In English the children will be reading the lovely story called ‘The Abominables’ by Iva Ibbotson and they will also be writing a set of instructions and a report.

In Maths the children will be working on place value, partitioning and then column addition and subtraction.

In our Science lessons the children will be learning about the human body and also what a balanced diet consists of. I may also show them a few skeletons which always generates lots of interest.

Our topic for the first term is called ‘Children of World War II’ in which the children will learn about how life was like for a child in those times. It will also involve us practising a few noisy air raid drills in the classroom.

In Computing the children will continue to work on their digital literacy skills and then they will use these to create a poster linked to World War II.

Finally, in RE the children will be leaning about the term ‘covenant’ by looking at the story of Noah. They will also learn how this concept applies to our lives today.

Music will be taught by Miss Mills on a Wednesday and each term the children will have an art day (with Mrs Wilson) and also a DT day.

Homework and PE

Homework will be sent out every Friday and will be expected to be returned no later than the following Wednesday please. PE will be on Fridays and this term the children will be playing hockey which I will also be taking as a club this year.

Spelling and times tables tests

Spelling tests will take place every Friday morning and the children will be tested on their times tables every Thursday morning.

If you have any questions or concerns then please feel free to get in touch by emailing me or catching me on the playground. I am also available most afternoons (except Wednesday and Thursday) until 5 p.m.

Mr James Maré
