Class 3 Letter Term 3 2018-2019

Dear Parents, Carers and Pupils of Class 3

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and are ready for a busy term ahead. Thank-you very much for the generous gifts and lovely Christmas cards I received in December.

As Mr Way mentioned in his final newsletter of the year, Miss Tydeman will be teaching the class on a Friday. I will be teaching the class from Monday - Thursday as Mrs Wilson is teaching in class 5.

In term 3 and 4, Miss Sillwood, a BA Year 3 student teacher will be in class for her final teaching placement. Mr Davies, a Year 1 student will be in class for most Tuesdays for the rest of the year.

Term 3 curriculum content

In English we will be starting to read the very popular Iron Man by Ted Hughes and the children will be writing a description and also an informal letter.

In Maths the children will be learning a formal written method for multiplication and then we’ll be looking at different ways of representing data.

In our Science lessons the children will be learning about how forces and magnets work. We will also be doing some interesting experiments using these and different magnetic materials.

Our topic for this term is a Geography based one called Earth Explorers. The children will

be locating different continents, countries and capital cities and will also be researching and comparing two different European countries.

In Computing the children will continue to work on their programming skills and will also be learning about how search engines work.

In PSHCE, we will be focusing on assessing risk and how to keep safe.

From this term, I will teach Music on a Thursday (we will be learning about musical notation) and each term the children will also have an art and a DT day.

Finally, in RE the children will be learning about The Incarnation - what it is and how it applies to our lives today.

Homework and PE

Homework will be sent out every Friday and will be expected to be returned no later than the following Wednesday please. PE will be on Fridays and this term the children will be working on their Netball skills with Miss Tydeman.

Spelling and times tables tests

Spelling tests will continue to take place every Friday morning and the children will be tested on their times tables every Thursday morning.

Times table test change

I mentioned this to most parents in December, but as a reminder, from this term the test will be changing slightly. More focus will be on the time taken (and not just how many questions the children get correct) and the children will only be tested on the multiplication facts instead of multiplication and division. The division facts are important and the children will continue to be tested on them but not as formally as the multiplication facts.

If you have any questions or concerns then please feel free to get in touch by emailing me or catching me on the playground. I am also available most afternoons (except Thursday and Friday) until 5 p.m.
