Class 3 Letter Term 5 2018-2019

Dear Parents, Carers and Pupils of Class 3,

I hope you all had a lovely Easter break and are ready for a busy term ahead! From this term Mrs Stratas will be teaching the class on a Friday morning. Miss Tydeman will continue to teach the class in the afternoon.

Term 5 curriculum content

In English we will be starting to read The Sheep Pig by Dick King-Smith and the children will be writing some poetry and then an adventure story.

In Maths the children will be measuring length, volume/capacity and mass. They will also be adding and subtracting money.

In our Science lessons the children will be learning all about plants including what each part of the plant does. We will also be doing some interesting investigations into how plants survive and grow.

Our topic for this term is a Geography based one called Canterbury Explorers in which the children will be learning all about their local area. Part of this will include a learning walk around Canterbury.

In Computing the children will be using their creativity to design tessellations using Inkscape.

In PSHCE, we will be focusing on how we can make a positive contribution to the society in which we live.

Finally, in RE the children will be learning about The Kingdom of God – when Jesus left and what the impact of Pentecost was.

Homework and PE
Maths homework will be sent out every Thursday and will be expected to be returned no later than the following Wednesday please. PE will be on Fridays and this term the children will be working on their Tennis skills with Miss Tydeman.

Spelling and times tables tests
Spelling tests will continue to take place every Friday morning and the children will be tested on their times tables every Thursday morning.

Topic homework
For the rest of the year, instead of the English homework the children will be given a choice of topic homework to complete. The children can complete as much of the work as they want but one activity is the minimum please. The work can be completed in homework books or on paper. The children will get an opportunity to present their work during the last week of term 5.

If you have any questions or concerns then please feel free to get in touch by emailing me or catching me on the playground. I am also available most afternoons (except Thursday and Friday) until 5 p.m.
