Our new topic this term will be Anglo Saxons and Vikings. The children will be developing their understanding of local, British and world history. In Geography, they will be investigating key geographical regions and studying how various topographical features have changed over time.

In English, the children will be writing a selection of different poems and will be moving on to writing balanced arguments this term. In Maths, our focus will be on multiplication and division using mental and written methods. Later in the term, the children will be learning how to recognise mixed numbers and improper fractions.

In Science this term, we will be learning about ‘Forces’. Please encourage your child to do their own research at home and to visit the local library if possible. Our focus in RE this term will be on ‘People of God’ and the children will be exploring the following question – How can following God bring freedom and justice?

The children will continue to practice their digital literacy skills and their main Computing focus this term will be on ‘Operators’ (using the Scratch programme). Our main focus in PSHCE this term will be on ‘Relationships’ and this theme aims to develop knowledge, understanding and skills in three key social and emotional aspects of learning: self-awareness, managing feelings and empathy.

This term in Art, the children will be focusing on the work of Van Gogh and recreating some of his famous landscape paintings. As part of our Food and Nutrition topic in DT this term, we will be visiting Wagamama restaurant for a healthy eating workshop. Mrs Wilson will be teaching the class French lessons this term and the children will be learning key language for members of the family and leisure activities.

The class will be continuing their brass lessons on a Thursday morning. The children have really enjoyed these small group sessions and are making good progress. Many thanks for your support with this aspect of the curriculum.

Home learning: Home learning will continue to be set on a Friday and is to be returned on the following Wednesday.  It will consist of English, Maths and Topic.  The children will continue to be given weekly spellings and times tables challenges to learn, ready for a test each Friday.  We would also ask you to continue to encourage your child to read at home daily and discuss what they have read.

PE: PE is on a Wednesday afternoon and this term the children will be doing hockey. Please can you ensure that your child has the correct kit, including sensible footwear.

We are looking forward to a busy and exciting term! Many thanks for your continued support.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Pickles, Mrs Wilson and Mrs Morse
