For children with SEN

Here I will post additional information and resources that could help you support your child with additional needs at this confusing time.

Wednesday 29th April 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

Well done to you on making it to week one of Term 5, which finds us continuing with home learning.

This week, I have been working with teachers to increase the support available to you as parents of children with additional or special educational needs. Your child’s class teacher will be in contact with you weekly with learning which is differentiated (an adapted level) from the whole class activities, where appropriate.

We have also reviewed your child’s personalised learning plan (PLP) and will try to provide resources you can use to support them at home to continue with some of the additional interventions and provision we had in place in school. If you have any queries or need clarification on anything that is sent, please ask your child’s class teacher or contact me and I will be happy to help.

If you would like an up to date copy of your child’s PLP, please let me know and I can send you this.

For lots of our children, this is a hugely unsettling time, so can I please encourage you to make their wellbeing a priority over any other learning. These are a few tips that may support you (and them):

  • Create a routine (predictability and consistency are key)
  • Provide down time/ space for them to relax
  • Listen to them

There is a huge amount of information and free resources available at the moment and this can be overwhelming for us as parents. Remember that you know your child best and you must not feel pressure to do everything – your children won’t thank you for it, and you will exhaust yourself!

Take care of each other,

Mrs Duffy

Assistant Head and SENCo
