Rainbow Class Term 2 Letter 2018-2019

2nd November 2018

Dear Parents, Carers and Pupils of Rainbow Class,

We hope you all enjoyed the half term break with your children and are ready for the term ahead. This term we will be looking at Transport as our topic before the glitter and excitement of Christmas enter the classroom. Within the topic of Transport we will be talking about what transport we have used and where we went. We will be drawingmaps for cars, trains and other modes of transport too. Following the children’s interests is our top priority so each of you over the course of the term will get a letter to fill in about your child’s interests to enhance the provision in the classroom.

All of your child’s learning is accessible to you on Tapestry using the email which was sent to all of the email addresses we have on the system for you. If you are having trouble accessing Tapestry please let a member of the team know and I will allocate time to help you. A huge thank you to all parents that are accessing Tapestry, commenting on the learning that has happened in the classroom and adding photos too of what you do at the weekends as this provides a great way to start conversations when they come back to school on a Monday morning.

In Maths we will be looking at ordering numbers, understanding what the number means with drawings and looking for the amount using resources in the environment. We will be using Number Blocks to assist our learning which can be found on CBeebies if you want to aid your child’s learning. We will be thinking of the number which is one more and one less with numbers to 10 and beyond for those that are ready. This will lead to the class adding numbers together to make a total and seeing how to set this out, using pictures if needed to find the answer.

In English we are still working on writing our names so please keep practicing at home. We will be continuing with phonics cooking on a Tuesday and will be asking children to write the sounds they can hear in the words on their wallets. During letters and sounds children are now helping to write the sounds in words and we are learning more digraphs this term and tricky words too. We will be focusing our reading around the story Whatever Next and will be doing lots of drama and shows based on this story to teach the children new language and show them how stories are structured too. They are excited to sit in a box with a colander on their heads to go to the moon for a picnic!

PE is continuing on a Thursday this term and we will be wearing our PE kit (coloured t-shirt and navy shorts/jogging bottoms with their plimsolls). Please can these stay at school for the term in case we have to change the day especially when we get closer to Christmas and practicing for the nativity is in full swing, our timetable will see some changes.

Please can rolling snack contributions of £3 be paid as soon as possible to the school office so that we can continue to provide a wide variety of snacks and fruits to the children each day.

Every day your child needs to bring in their book bag with their school reading book and yellow contact book too and a named water bottle filled with just water.

You may have seen a notice about stay and play sessions where you can sign up to join us in the classroom for a child initiated session. This is a chance for you to come in and see your child learning in a classroom environment and join in with them too. If it is raining during the session you have signed up for, we may still be outside so please bring appropriate clothing to join your child.

We are very fortunate that we have a student with us for at least a day a week until the end of June. Miss Hoggart is in her first year of teacher training at Christ Church University and has already met the children and is looking forward to getting to know Rainbow class more in the months to come and watching them develop as learners in this time too. We also have a sixth form student starting this term, her name is Emma and she will be doing a week at school and then a week with us in the classroom. We will be welcoming Emma to the class on Monday 5th November. If you have any questions please find a member of the Rainbow staff team who will be
more than happy to help.
