Rainbow Class Term 3 Letter 2018-2019

Dear Parents, Carers and Pupils of Rainbow class,

Firstly a Happy New Year to you all! We hope you have all had a restful and enjoyable break with family. A huge thank you for all the home made and shop bought gifts and cards we received before the break from so many of you.

Here is a snippet of all the great things Rainbow class will be learning about this term.

Our loose topic this term will be animals where we will look at the habitats of animals living in the Jungle and Polar places too. The children’s interests are still the priority but it is important for us to develop their curiosity and love of learning too.

In maths this term we will be focusing on weighing and measuring, 3D shape, patterns and consolidating counting to 20, and making sure we can recognise the numbers too.

We will be focusing on writing words, short sentences to describe animals, our name if we needed and learning phase 3 sounds and digraphs which we will then begin to add to our writing too. We will be continuing with phonics cooking but this will happen on Friday’s.

We will be listening to lots of animal stories as well as lots of others. The stories we will be hearing lots are: Rumble in the Jungle, The Tiger who came to tea, Lost and Found, Penguin small and Say hello to the Jungle Animals.

It is really important that you hear your child read at least 3 times a week. Please write a comment in the yellow contact book to let us know how they are getting on with their reading. We hear your child at least once a week, please ensure their books and yellow contact book are in their book bag every day as we have volunteers in to hear readers too.

We will be doing PE on a Tuesday, where we will be looking at the basic skills of gymnastics. On a Thursday we will be doing write dance where we use big movements in time to music and represent the music using drawings too, we use both hands in write dance to strengthen muscles in both shoulders, arms, wrists and hands.  Please make sure their PE kit is at school every day though in case we have to move things around.

Understanding the World

As part of our topic on hot and cold climates we will be looking at ways to make ice melt and making predictions too. We will be going to the computer suite this term to play phonics games, draw pictures and use the beebots too. In RE our big question this term is ‘What do Christians believe is special about Jesus and the message he brings.’

Expressive Arts and Design

The class are given opportunities to decide what they would like to create using paint, junk modelling, different materials and textures with guidance given when needed and suggestions being shared too.

Miss Tydeman covers PSHE with the class on a Wednesday morning. This term the topic they will be learning about is ‘me and keeping safe.’

Please could all children have welly boots at school every day with their name in so that we can still go outside and learn outdoors when the weather is bad. A spare pair of warm clothes too, so that we can go over to the forest school and learn out there. We can dig in the mud and we have lots of space to run and explore.  The bag of clothes can be left on their peg with their name in so that they can identify their clothes from others in the class.

This term we welcome a third year teaching student on their final placement to join our class. She will be with us until Easter. The children will be introduced to Miss Lawrence on Monday 14th January. We hope she enjoys her time with us. Miss Hoggart is still with us too until the end of June, she will be in every Tuesday and the odd week throughout the year.

Please can you pay £3 for rolling snack as soon as possible for the term so that we can continue to provide a wide range of fruits and snacks.

Other information and Dates for the calendar

A class trip for later this term is in discussion and further information will be given out in the next few weeks.

Tuesday 12th February at 2.15pm- we will be inviting you all in for a tea party. Your child will be writing the invitation please keep a look out for the invitation in their book bags in a few weeks’ time.

Stay and Play dates have been added to the board. These are on a first come first serve basis. Please keep looking. Once the spaces have been filled, it will be taken down and a slip of paper handed to you with a reminder of the date and time.

Many thanks for all your continued support,

Miss Bergin, Mrs Gooderham, Miss Fuller and Miss Tydeman
