Doing all the good we can through faith, love and excellence

Dear Parents and Carers,

It is hard to believe that we will be entering the Summer Term when we return from our Easter break and time does indeed move very fast in schools. Next term the children in year 6 will have a week of statutory tests and this is an important way of measuring the progress the children have made during their time with us. Of course we don’t want this to be a stressful experience but instead an opportunity to show off how brilliant they are. The children in year 2 will also have statutory tests to take part in but this is in a much more relaxed way and these are used to inform the teacher’s assessment. Not to be outdone, the children in year 1 will take part in the statutory Phonics Screening. This is fairly quick and unobtrusive and will be carried out across a week in June. If you have any questions or concerns regarding any of the testing that takes place, please contact the class teacher who I’m sure will be happy to go through the processes with you.

The children have taken part in a range of different activities so far this year and extra events such as Space Week and Book Week, Shakespeare Club and the Easter production take a lot of organisation and I thank the staff for their efforts with these events. There have also been events organised by the PTFA and I understand that the latest of which, The Easter Egg Bingo, was a great success (dare I say eggcellent?). Again I thank all those that have been involved with the PTFA in organising or supporting the different events throughout the year.

You will have been informed that we are moving towards a cashless system in the school office. I believe that this will be a more efficient way of doing things, both for you as parents and the school office, and the feedback we have had so far about this switch has been positive. We are currently updating one or two things on our office computer systems and hope to then switch to cashless at some point in May. There will be an opportunity to come in and have the payment system explained so look out for the date on our weekly newsletter.

As you are fully aware the school has been without a substantive Headteacher since Mr Garratt left in July however I am now in a position to say that a new Headteacher has been appointed for September. Following an in-depth shortlisting and interview process the decision was made by the governing body to appoint Mrs Kristina Dyer as the full time head. Mrs Dyer has a wealth of experience and will be joining St Peter’s from Selling school. I have no doubt she will be a great success here and the school will move from strength to strength under her leadership especially with the fantastic support of Mrs Duffy and the rest of the staff. She is keen to meet you all at some point, preferably before the summer, and we will ensure the transition is smooth and effective. As ever I thank you for all your support this term and I look forward to seeing you all after the Easter break.

Yours faithfully
Mr S J Way
Executive Headteacher
