This term in computing we will be focusing on digital literacy, in particular making full use of our ‘Study Zone’ (advanced excel) scheme.

PE

We are lucky to have the expertise and guidance of Mr McCue from The Canterbury Sports Academy this term in Year 6. He will be teaching us a variety of activities this term such as gymnastics, football, rugby and basketball. PE lessons this term will take place on a Wednesday afternoon. Kits may come in before Wednesday but will need to return home after each weekly session.

RE

This first unit of work this year focuses on Islam, particularly ‘what it means to be a Muslim in Britain today’. We will continue to practice our Christian values throughout our school week.

Topic

During the first term, Year 6 will be exploring The Tudors, and their reign. We will begin by looking at King Henry VII, and how he brought an end to ‘The War of the Roses’ before moving on to the controversial King Henry VIII. We will also explore the women in power, Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth I and the impact they had on Britain. Please encourage your Children to further their knowledge on the topic by completing any additional research or activities at home, and then shared at school.

Art

In art, we will be focusing on observational drawing, practicing our shady and texture techniques as well as mastering our skills with a variety of materials. Our final piece will be to draw a Tudor house that will make a welcomed addition to our corridor or classroom displays.

PSHE

Keeping in tune with science, we will be learning about health and wellbeing. Many discussions and group tasks based on the importance of health and especially raising awareness about Mental Health.

Homework

Homework will be set every Friday, to be handed in completed on the following Wednesday. The tasks will consist of a weekly spelling list to practice and learn, a times table activity to complete and an additional task linked to either their Topic theme or Science focus.
