Christian Vision

Jesus declares that the greatest commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind, and the second is like it: love your neighbour as yourself.

Matthew 22:37-40

Our Vision:

“Doing all the good we can through faith, love and excellence.”

St. Peter’s staff do all ‘the good we can’ by putting the children at the centre of all that we do and the decisions we make to create an inclusive, caring environment, with a family feel amongst our community.

Our aims

We aim to do this through:

  • Faith We aim to provide an excellent education in a secure and Christian learning environment for all members of our school. Although our roots lie in Methodism we welcome children of different religions and cultural backgrounds.  We promote the Christian Values of our school and the links to the church and local community.
  • Love (our core value) We aim to care for all of our children by offering a high level of pastoral support. Only when children feel safe, happy and secure are they in a position to access the education on offer. We work as a team putting the children first and we welcome the partnership with parents and the local authority and involvement in the local community.
  • Excellence We aim to inspire and motivate all of our pupils to create curious learners so that they learn whilst developing essential skills and knowledge for their future. We provide an all-round excellent curriculum that celebrates all achievements. We learn together. We use the outside environment as much as possible to improve learning. We believe each that each child is a unique individual and that the first years of school are the most important as they lay the foundations for learning.

Our Christian Values:

Our pupils, staff and governors were all involved in choosing our school's Christian values.

It is these values that form the foundations at St Peter's Methodist Primary School and underpin everything we do.

We live them out in everything we do.

Our Core Value: Love

1 John 4:19 - 'We love because he first loved us.'

Bible Story: The Parable of the Lost Sheep (Luke 15:1-7)

Friendship

Luke 6:31 -   ‘Do to others as you would have them do to you’.

Bible Story: Jesus washing the disciples' feet (John 13:3-8)

Kindness

Luke 10:27 -  ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’

Bible Story: The Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37)

Co-operation

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 - 'Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labour: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.'

Bible Passage: The parts of the body - every part is needed (1 Corinthians 12:14-21)

Forgiveness

Matthew 18:21-35 -  'Forgive as the Lord forgave you.'

Bible Story: The Parable of the Unforgiving Debtor (Matthew 18:21-35)

John Wesley's Rule

Our school ethos is based around  'John Wesley's Rule'. This is recited during every worship, displayed around the school and linked to our Behaviour policy. John Wesley was known to be the leader of the Methodism movement, and so we follow his statements as part of our Methodist identity.

Our Bible passage is taken from Matthew 22:37-40

Jesus declares that the greatest commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind, and the second is like it: love your neighbour as yourself.

Matthew 22:37-40

Our Christian Vision is underpinned by this Bible passage, highlighting themes of our core value, love, plus kindness and empathy in regard to interactions with all in the school community. There is a deep connection between the principles found within our Bible passage and John Wesley's teachings, solidifying our connection with the Methodist church. The principles set out in Matthew 22:37-40, are also reflected in the school's approach to Collective Worship, RE lessons and overall school life.
