At St Peter’s children in KS1 and KS2 all have 2 lessons of PE each week. The class teacher teaches one lesson and the other is taught by a teacher from Canterbury Sport Partnership using our PE funding money to upskill teachers.
Children in KS2 all have a term of swimming each year to ensure all are accessing the national curriculum. These lessons take place at Kingsmead Leisure Centre and the children are put in groups to ensure the content is appropriate for the group.
A range of after school clubs are accessible for children in KS2 across the year and we try to incorporate the upcoming competitions when planning the clubs.
We attend many competitions at Canterbury Academy where a range of children are selected to represent our school. Children in years 5 and 6 who become sports leaders run lunchtime clubs to prepare for the competitions and really encourage their peers to take part.
Every term we run intra-school competitions where the focus is the sport for the term and children work to gain points for their coloured team working with their peers in their year group. We also run a personal best competition each term where each child has the opportunity to compete with their own best score to improve it over the term and the highest scoring girl and boy are celebrated in whole school celebration worship on a Friday morning.
We run a sports week each year where varieties of opportunities are available to the pupils. In the past we have had a sponsored bounce, a wake and shake competition and visits to sports clubs too.
