Phonics

At St Peter's, the children learn how to read using a Phonics programme called 'Little Wandle'. They begin by learning the sounds and then they learn how to read words by saying the sounds (segmenting) and then pushing them together to hear the word (blending). Below is a link to the Little Wandle website which has lots of guidance to help you support your child at home with their phonics learning. 

This link will help you to say the sounds, as well as providing information about the order of the sounds taught in our Reception and Year 1 classes.

On the Rainbow and Class 1 pages, you will find a PowerPoint presentation that has been shared this year with our parents. It explains how we teach phonics at St Peter's and how our reading scheme links to our phonics scheme.
